Abstract
Η διπλωματική εργασία με τίτλο "Circus-ing around: somber, pompous, grandiose” εξετάζει το τσίρκο ως ένα χώρο που παράγει κοινωνικές συνθήκες, αναλύοντας τον μέσω του μπρεχτικού εργαλείου της αποστασιοποίησης (Verfremdungseffekt). Το τσίρκο, αν και φαίνεται να είναι χώρος διασκέδασης και φαντασίας, αναδεικνύει τις αντιφάσεις της κοινωνίας, παρουσιάζοντας την καθημερινή πραγματικότητα με τρόπο που επιτρέπει στο θεατή να αποστασιοποιηθεί από τα συναισθηματικά κλισέ και να δει τη κοινωνία με νέο κριτικό πρίσμα. Η εργασία συνδέει την μπρεχτική αποστασιοποίηση με τη μαρξιστική θεώρηση της τέχνης ως εργαλείου κοινωνικής αλλαγής και την κριτική της καπιταλιστικής κοινωνίας, ενώ αναδεικνύει τη σύνδεση του τσίρκου με την ποπ-αρτ, η οποία σατιρίζει και κριτικάρει τη μαζική κουλτούρα και τις καταναλωτικές κοινωνίες. Επιπλέον, η μελέτη ενσωματώνει την κριτική του Ζακ Ρανσιέρ για τον ενεργό ρόλο του θεατή στην καλλιτεχνική εμπειρία, υπογραμμίζοντας τη σημασία της κριτικής σκέψης και της κοινωνικής συνείδησης. Αναλύοντας στοιχεία όπως η αποσπασματική αφήγηση, η νομαδικότητα και η προσωρινότητα του τσίρκου, καθώς και τη χρήση του χιούμορ, της μουσικής και των ακροβατικών, η εργασία καταλήγει στο ότι το τσίρκο μπορεί να αποτελέσει πεδίο κοινωνικής κριτικής, όπου οι αντιφάσεις της σύγχρονης κοινωνίας γίνονται αντιληπτές μέσω της αποστασιοποίησης, επιτρέποντας στο θεατή να αναπτύξει μια κριτική αντίληψη του κόσμου.
Abstract in english
The thesis titled "Circus-ing around: somber, pompous, grandiose" examines the circus as a space that produces social conditions, analyzing it through the Brechtian tool of alienation (Verfremdungseffekt). Although the circus may appear as a space for entertainment and fantasy, it highlights the contradictions of society, presenting everyday reality in a way that allows the audience to distance themselves from emotional clichés and see society through a new critical lens. The study connects Brechtian alienation with the Marxist view of art as a tool for social change and the critique of capitalist society, while also highlighting the connection between the circus and pop art, which satirizes and critiques mass culture and consumer societies. Furthermore, the study incorporates Jacques Rancière's critique of the active role of the spectator in the artistic experience, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and social awareness. By analyzing elements such as fragmented narration, the nomadic and temporary nature of the circus, as well as the use of humor, music, and acrobatics, the thesis concludes that the circus can serve as a field of social critique, where the contradictions of contemporary society are made perceptible through alienation, allowing the spectator to develop a critical perception of the world.
