Abstract

Abstract in english

The world as we perceive it —forms, structures, thoughts, emotions, dreams— is constantly being DE and RE composed, with or without intent, inviting us into a perpetual chaos of fragments. With audacity and tenderness, cruelty..eros.. «Shall we dance?» The sculptural installation that constitutes my thesis project is a personal, restless, and investigative gaze into life and the world that surrounds and includes us, both on a primary material and physical level, as well as within more intangible realms—those of our thoughts and meditations, our dreams and emotions, our plans and cancellations, our loves and disappointments. Birth, growth, decay, death—the continuous opening and closing of life cycles, large, small, and even smaller—are anxious questions that- in one way or another- touch us all and lead us to search for answers, for alternative proposals, for personal cosmogonies. My own calling uses as a springboard an irresistible attraction toward fragments of things or creatures that I find in my wanderings—things that have met a natural or unexpected end—in order to give continuity to what has theoretically ended. And I feel called, as I invite the viewer as well, to wonder: When those things we take for granted, or consider immortal, imperishable, or stable are lost, shattered, or die according to the role assigned to them by ourselves or by a cosmic creative force—what can we do with their remnants, ..with our remnants? Can we transform and be transformed by dancing with more—and seemingly incompatible or bizarre—parts now? And what will my new form, the new life, the new endeavor be? My very materials reveal cycles that have closed, and since they are no longer exactly what they were before, the boundaries have faded, allowing them to mix and recompose in a more liberating, therapeutic, and self-defining way.
