Abstract
Στο έργο μου με τίτλο «Οκτώ Είκοσι» επιχειρώ να σε μεταφέρω σε ένα ταξίδι που δεν πραγματοποιείται υπό τις συνηθισμένες συνθήκες της εποχής μας. Η διαδρομή αυτή έγινε με κύριο μέσο το περπάτημα, με στόχο να φέρω εμένα και
τον συνοδοιπόρο μου, σε μια κατάσταση όπου οι απαιτήσεις της πόλης υποχωρούν, οι δομές της παύουν να καθορίζουν την καθημερινότητα και έτσι αναδύονται οι πρωταρχικές ανάγκες: η τροφή, η στέγη και η ίδια η έννοια της επιβίωσης. Μέσα από αυτή τη διαδικασία αναδεικνύεται η σχέση ανάμεσα στο σύνθετο και το απλό, καθώς και ο τρόπος με τον οποίο οι ανάγκες μετατρέπονται σε φορτίο, ένα βάρος που, όσο κι αν κουράζει, παραμένει απαραίτητο. Έτσι, και το σακίδιο αποκτά έναν συμβολικό χαρακτήρα. Επιθυμία μου ήταν να βιώσω μια διαδρομή που έχουμε συνηθίσει να προσπερνάμε βιαστικά, να τη διανύσω με αργούς ρυθμούς και να αποτελέσω αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της, δίνοντας έμφαση στην πορεία και όχι στον προορισμό. Σήμερα, άλλωστε, όλα μοιάζουν να κινούνται επιταχυνόμενα. Παράλληλα, το έργο διερευνά μια διαφορετική μορφή ανθρώπινης επαφής: την επικοινωνία ανάμεσα σε απλές, καθημερινές προσωπικότητες και σε δύο ανθρώπους που αρχικά φαντάζουν ξένοι, πέρα από κάθε τοπικιστική ταυτότητα. Μέσα από τη συνάντηση αυτή, οι ταυτότητες διευρύνονται και επαναπροσδιορίζονται. Έτσι, το ταξίδι αποκτά νέα σημασία. Ο τελικός προορισμός παύει να αποτελεί το κέντρο ενδιαφέροντος και τη θέση του παίρνουν η κάθε εικόνα και η κάθε στιγμή της διαδρομής. Σκοπός μου είναι να μεταφέρω τον θεατή μέσα σε αυτή την εμπειρία και, έστω για λίγο, να του επιτρέψω να βιώσει τα συναισθήματα που νιώσαμε κι εμείς, μέσα από έναν τρόπο μετακίνησης που σε κάποιους μπορεί να φαίνεται παράλογος ή ανώφελος, αλλά για εμάς υπήρξε ουσιαστικός.
Abstract in english
In my project “Eight Twenty”, I invite the viewer into a journey that unfolds outside the familiar conditions of contemporary life. Undertaken primarily on foot, this route seeks to place both myself and my companion in a state where the demands of the city recede and its structures no longer dictate the rhythms of everyday existence. In their absence, fundamental needs come to the forefront: nourishment, shelter, and the very condition of survival. Through this process, the relationship between the complex and the essential is brought into focus, as is the manner in which needs become a form of burden—a weight that, while exhausting, remains indispensable. Within this context, the backpack assumes a symbolic presence. My intention was to experience a path we have grown accustomed to passing through hastily, to move through it slowly, and to become inseparable from it—shifting emphasis from destination to journey. In a time defined by acceleration, such deceleration becomes an act of awareness. At the same time, the work explores an alternative mode of human connection: an encounter between ordinary individuals and two figures who initially appear as outsiders, detached from any fixed local identity. Through these interactions, identities are expanded and rearticulated. The journey, therefore, acquires a renewed significance. The final destination recedes from importance, giving way to the images and moments that emerge along the path. The aim is to immerse the viewer in this experience and, if only briefly, to allow them to inhabit the sensations we encountered—through a mode of movement that may seem irrational or unproductive to some, yet for us proved deeply meaningful.
