Abstract
H έκθεση με τίτλο «unLIMBited» είναι σαν μία αυτοβιογραφία.
Ακρυλικά, mixed media, 3D printing, light boxes, videos, κατασκευές, αποτυπώνουν μια πορεία ζωής σημαδεμένη από τη Συγγενή Έλλειψη Άνω Άκρου του Μηριαίου και τις πολυάριθμες χειρουργικές επεμβάσεις που ακολούθησαν.
Σε αυτά τα έργα καταγράφονται στιγμές του παρελθόντος, αποτυπώνονται ακτινογραφίες και παρουσιάζονται επεξεργασμένα βιωματικά αντικείμενα που επιλέχτηκαν, το καθένα με τη δική του ανάμνηση και σημασία.
Οι εμπειρίες του σώματος, της μνήμης και της αντοχής του, γίνονται έργα. Οι δακτύλιοι, οι βελόνες και οι ράβδοι της συσκευής ILIZAROV, άλλοτε εργαλεία πόνου και άλλοτε ελπίδας, μεταμορφώνονται μέσα στην τέχνη σε σύμβολα δύναμης και δημιουργίας. Κάθε έργο είναι μία αφήγηση της διαδικασίας που τελικά μου χάρισε το δικό μου πόδι, μια διαδρομή αυτογνωσίας και κάθαρσης, που μετέτρεψε τις δύσκολες μνήμες σε εικόνες με νέες σημασίες.
Μέσα σε αυτή τη θεματολογία, υπάρχει και μία έντονη αντίθεση. Ενώ η έμπνευση των έργων προέρχεται από σκληρές και τραυματικές αναμνήσεις, τα ίδια, πλημμυρίζουν από χρώματα και στοιχεία παιδικότητας.
Το σώμα που νοσεί, η πάθηση, η αποκατάσταση, είναι το έναυσμα για μία αναζήτηση προσωπική, αλλά και οικουμενική καθώς αφορά τον καθένα από εμάς. Η έκθεση πραγματεύεται τη λειτουργία της μνήμης η οποία ανακαλεί κομμάτια του παρελθόντος για την ανάδειξη, την επεξεργασία και εν τέλει την κάθαρση. Είναι ένας τρόπος ταύτισης, συμπαράστασης και στήριξης σε άτομα που βιώνουν ή βίωσαν δύσκολα θέματα υγείας και θυσίασαν την παιδική τους ηλικία για ένα καλύτερο αύριο.

The exhibition titled “unLIMBited” functions as a form of autobiography.
Acrylics, mixed media, 3D printing, light boxes, videos, and constructed forms trace a life journey marked by Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency and the numerous surgical procedures that followed.
Within these works, moments from the past are recorded, X-rays are depicted, and processed personal objects are presented—each carefully selected, carrying its own memory and significance.
The experiences of the body, it’s memory and of endurance are transformed into artworks. The rings, needles, and rods of the Ilizarov device —once instruments of pain and, at times, of hope—are reimagined through art as symbols of strength and creation. Each piece narrates a stage of a process that ultimately granted me my own leg: a journey of self-awareness and catharsis that transformed difficult memories into images imbued with new meanings. Within this thematic framework, a striking contrast emerges. While the inspiration for the works stems from harsh and traumatic memories, the artworks themselves are imbued with vibrant colors.
The ailing body, the condition, and the process of rehabilitation serve as a point of departure for a search that is both personal and universal, as it concerns each and every one of us. The exhibition explores the function of memory, which recalls fragments of the past in order to highlight, process, and ultimately purify them. It becomes a means of identification, empathy, and support for individuals who are experiencing or have experienced serious health challenges and who sacrificed some of the childhood years in pursuit of a better future.
