Abstract
Η παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία εξετάζει τη διαδικασία του εξευγενισμού (gentrification) στην Αθήνα, εστιάζοντας στις κοινωνικές, πολιτιστικές και οικονομικές του προεκτάσεις. Με έμφαση στην περιοχή του Μεταξουργείου, η έρευνα διερευνά τη σχέση μεταξύ της τέχνης και του φαινομένου του εξευγενισμού, αναδεικνύοντας τον ρόλο των καλλιτεχνικών παρεμβάσεων και των πολιτιστικών πρωτοβουλιών στην αλλαγή του αστικού τοπίου. Μέσα από ιστορική ανάλυση, μελέτες περιπτώσεων και θεωρητικά μοντέλα, αναδεικνύεται η δυναμική που αναπτύσσεται μεταξύ πολιτιστικής παραγωγής, κοινωνικής αλλαγής και οικονομικής κερδοφορίας. Οι καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις, όπως το ReMap, η Athens Biennale και η Documenta 14, καθώς και η επίδραση του Airbnb και της τουριστικοποίησης, εξετάζονται ως παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν τη σύνθεση της γειτονιάς και οδηγούν στην εκτόπιση των παλαιών κατοίκων. Τέλος, η εργασία αναδεικνύει τις αντιστάσεις των τοπικών κοινοτήτων και τονίζει την ανάγκη για μια πιο δίκαιη και βιώσιμη αστική ανάπτυξη.

This thesis examines the process of gentrification in Athens, focusing on its social, cultural, and economic implications. Emphasizing the Metaxourgeio district, the research explores the relationship between art and gentrification, highlighting the role of artistic interventions and cultural initiatives in shaping the urban landscape. Through historical analysis, case studies, and theoretical models, the study reveals the dynamics between cultural production, social change, and economic profitability. Artistic events such as ReMap, the Athens Biennale, and Documenta 14, along with the impact of Airbnb and tourism, are analyzed as key factors influencing neighborhood composition and contributing to the displacement of long-term residents. Finally, the thesis sheds light on local community resistance and emphasizes the need for a more equitable and sustainable urban development.
