| dc.description.abstract | Το Ego Death είναι μια απόπειρα αποτύπωσης της στιγμής όπου ο άνθρωπος εγκαταλείπει τον εαυτό του όπως τον γνωρίζει και μεταβαίνει σε μια άυλη πραγματικότητα. Η συνείδηση φεύγει από το σώμα και περιπλανιέται σε ένα φωτεινό σύμπαν χωρίς χρόνο, όπου η αίσθηση του "εγώ" διαλύεται και αντικαθίσταται από μια βαθιά ενότητα με το Όλον. Το έργο βασίζεται σε μια μελέτη του Πανεπιστημίου του Μίσιγκαν, η οποία έδειξε ότι τη στιγμή του θανάτου απελευθερώνεται μεγάλη ποσότητα της ψυχεδελικής ουσίας N,N-Dimethyltryptamine στον εγκέφαλο κάποιων θηλαστικών. Καθώς η ουσία αυτή υπάρχει και στον ανθρώπινο εγκέφαλο, είναι πιθανό να ισχύει ένας παρόμοιος μηχανισμός και να συμβάλλει στις επιθανάτιες εμπειρίες, αφού πέρα από τη φυσική του σύνδεση με τον θάνατο, όταν καταναλώνεται παρασύρει τη συνείδηση σε μια τελετουργική έξοδο από το είναι. Η ουσία N,N-Dimethyltryptamine, πέρα από τα θηλαστικά, υπάρχει σε πουλιά, αμφίβια, ψάρια, μικροοργανισμούς και τέλος σε φυτά, όπου βρίσκεται και στη μεγαλύτερη περιεκτικότητα. Τα φυτά αυτά, λόγω της μεγάλης συγκέντρωσης της ουσίας, χρησιμοποιούνται κυρίως από αυτόχθονες φυλές του Αμαζονίου σε ιερές τελετές με το αφέψημα αγιαχουάσκα, αποτελώντας μέρος της πολιτιστικής και θεραπευτικής τους παράδοσης. Η χρήση τους έχει γίνει αντικείμενο επιστημονικών ερευνών, οι οποίες δείχνουν ότι όλοι βιώνουν την ίδια μεταθανάτια εμπειρία αποκοπής από το σώμα, σαν μια πόρτα σε έναν παράλληλο κόσμο, όπου οντότητες μοιράζονται μια αρχέγονη γνώση. Το έργο αυτό είναι τα απομεινάρια ενός άλλου κόσμου και επιχειρεί να οπτικοποιήσει αυτή την εμπειρία, δίνοντας στον θεατή μια ματιά στο πώς μπορεί να είναι η μετάβαση προς τον θάνατο. | dc.description.abstracttranslated | "Ego Death" is an attempt to capture the moment when a person abandons the self as they know it and transitions into an immaterial reality. Consciousness leaves the body and wanders through a luminous, timeless universe, where the sense of "ego" dissolves and is replaced by a profound unity with the Whole. The work is based on a study by the University of Michigan, which showed that at the moment of death, a large amount of the psychedelic substance N,NDimethyltryptamine is released in the brains of certain mammals. Since this substance is also present in the human brain, it is possible that a similar mechanism applies and contributes to near-death experiences. Beyond its natural connection to death, when consumed, this substance draws consciousness into a ritualistic departure from being. N,N-Dimethyltryptamine exists not only in mammals but also in birds, amphibians, fish, microorganisms, and most abundantly in plants. Due to the high concentration of the substance in certain plants, they are primarily used by indigenous tribes of the Amazon in sacred ceremonies involving the ayahuasca brew, forming part of their cultural and healing traditions. Its use has become the subject of scientific research, which suggests that all people experience the same post-mortem detachment from the body, as if stepping through a doorway into a parallel world where entities share primordial knowledge. This work is a remnant of another world and seeks to visualize this experience, offering the viewer a glimpse of what the transition toward death might look like.
