| dc.description.abstract | Στο παρόν έργο, "still remains", παρουσιαζονται όψεις αθηναϊκών κοιμητηρίων. Τα κοιμητήρια δεν λειτουργούν ως ουδέτερος χώρος ταφής, αλλά συγκροτούνται με βάση πολιτισμικές αντιλήψεις, φανερώνοντας στοιχεία θρησκευτικής παράδοσης, κοινωνικών δυναμικών και ταξικής προέλευσης. Το ιδιωτικό βίωμα παίρνει μορφή μέσα από κοινά αναγνωρίσιμους κώδικες: τα μνημεία, τα υλικά, οι επιγραφές λειτουργούν ως σημεία σιωπηλής αφήγησης για το πώς οι εναπομείναντες επιλέγουν να θυμούνται. Παράλληλα διερευνώ πώς ένα περιβάλλον που συνδέεται με την ακινησία και τη σιωπή αποκαλύπτει μια ιδιότυπη ζωή. Λεπτές αλλαγές του χώρου αποκτούν ένταση, το κυριολεκτικό οπτικό περιεχόμενο υπερβαίνεται, καθώς το πλαίσιο του κοιμητηρίου φορτίζει “συμπτώσεις”, όπως μια γάτα σε έναν τάφο, με υπαρξιακό βάρος. Το μέσο της φωτογραφίας με ενδιαφέρει ως εργαλείο καταγραφής και τεκμηρίωσης της εμπειρίας, ως μέσο που δύναται να παρουσιάζει ίχνη παρουσίας και απουσίας ταυτόχρονα. Με απασχολεί επίσης ως φορέας μνήμης και έτσι ενσωματώνεται στη δουλειά μου. Ο φακός της φωτογραφικής μηχανής, τέλος, διαμεσολαβεί μεταξύ φωτογράφου και αντικειμένου, διευκολύνοντας την ερευνητική απόσταση των διαμεσολαβούμενων. Με βάση και αυτήν την απόσταση, η πρακτική μου δεν επιδιώκει να δραματοποιήσει τον θάνατο, αντίθετα επιχειρεί να παρατηρήσει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο ο θάνατος γίνεται μέρος της καθημερινότητας αυτών που ‘μείναν. | |
| dc.description.abstracttranslated | In the present work, "still remains", I present views of Athenian cemeteries. Cemeteries do not function as neutral spaces of burial, rather, they are formed according to cultural perceptions, revealing elements of religious tradition, social dynamics and class origins. Personal experience takes shape through commonly recognizable codes: the monuments, materials, and inscriptions operate as points of silent narration about how the living choose to remember. At the same time, I explore how an environment associated with stillness and silence reveals a peculiar kind of life. Subtle changes in the space acquire intensity, and the literal visual content is transcended, as the context of the cemetery charges “coincidences”, such as a cat on a grave, with existential weight. The medium of photography interests me as a tool for recording and documenting experience, as a medium capable of presenting traces of presence and absence simultaneously. I am also concerned with it as a carrier of memory, and in this manner it becomes integrated into my work, (where the image does not capture only what we see, but also what has already been lost). The camera lens, finally, mediates between the photographer and the subject, facilitating the investigative distance between the observer and the observed. Based on this stance, my practice does not seek to dramatize death, rather, it attempts to observe the way in which death becomes part of the everyday life of those who remain. | en |
