| dc.description.abstract | Το HYGROPHAGE παρουσιάζει ένα υποθετικό αλλά απολύτως πιθανό οικοσύστημα, στο οποίο άνθρωπος, έντομα και τεχνολογικές υποδομές συνυπάρχουν υπό συνθήκες περιβαλλοντικής πίεσης και περιορισμένων πόρων. Αντί να αναπαράγει μια αφήγηση περιβαλλοντικής κατάρρευσης ή έναν μετα-ανθρώπινο κόσμο όπου η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη αντικαθιστά τον άνθρωπο, το έργο διερευνά μια κατάσταση αλληλεξάρτησης, όπου η επιβίωση προκύπτει μέσα από εύθραυστες μορφές συνεργασίας μεταξύ βιολογικών και τεχνολογικών συστημάτων. Στον εκθεσιακό χώρο αναπτύσσεται ένας κλειστός κύκλος ζωής. Τα έντομα γεννιούνται σε εκκολαπτήρια, ειδικά διαμορφωμένες δομές που λειτουργούν ως χώροι επώασης και πρώιμης ανάπτυξης. Η επιβίωσή τους υποστηρίζεται από επιτοίχια φίλτρα αέρα, τα οποία δεν εξαλείφουν τη μόλυνση, αλλά τη διαχειρίζονται, δημιουργώντας τοπικές συνθήκες βιωσιμότητας μέσα σε ένα ευρύτερα μολυσμένο περιβάλλον. Οι υποδομές αυτές λειτουργούν ως μηχανισμοί διατήρησης της ζωής, μετατοπίζοντας και αναδιανέμοντας τις επιπτώσεις της περιβαλλοντικής κρίσης. Στο κέντρο του οικοσυστήματος βρίσκεται μια γλυπτική δομή που δημιουργείται συλλογικά από τα ίδια τα έντομα κατά το τελικό στάδιο του κύκλου ζωής τους. Η επιφάνειά της εγκλωβίζει ατμοσφαιρικούς ρύπους και τους μετατρέπει σε τροφή, επιτρέποντας την επιβίωση του είδους μέσα σε ένα τοξικό περιβάλλον. Παράλληλα, λειτουργεί ως συλλέκτης υγρασίας, συμπυκνώνοντας την ατμοσφαιρική υγρασία και παράγοντας νερό, έναν κρίσιμο πόρο τόσο για τους ζωντανούς οργανισμούς όσο και για τα τεχνολογικά συστήματα. Η επιλογή των εντόμων ως κεντρικών οργανισμών υπογραμμίζει τη σημασία της ανθεκτικότητας και της συλλογικής λειτουργίας. Τα έντομα είναι ικανά να προσαρμόζονται σε ακραίες συνθήκες και να λειτουργούν χωρίς κεντρικό έλεγχο, σχηματίζοντας αποκεντρωμένα συστήματα που θυμίζουν τόσο φυσικά οικοσυστήματα όσο και σύγχρονα τεχνολογικά δίκτυα. Η ανθρώπινη παρουσία δεν απουσιάζει, ούτε η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη κυριαρχεί· αντίθετα, και οι δύο εξαρτώνται από αυτό το οικοσύστημα και τους πόρους που παράγει. Το έργο προτείνει μια διαφορετική κατανόηση της νοημοσύνης, όχι ως αποκλειστικά ανθρώπινης ή μηχανικής ιδιότητας, αλλά ως οικολογικής διαδικασίας που αναδύεται μέσα από σχέσεις αλληλεπίδρασης και συνεξάρτησης. Μέσα από αυτό το σενάριο, το HYGROPHAGE θέτει το ερώτημα πώς θα μπορούσε να επαναπροσδιοριστεί η σχέση μας με τον φυσικό κόσμο, αν η επιβίωση δεν βασιζόταν στον έλεγχο, αλλά στη συνύπαρξη, τη συνεργασία και τη συνεχή προσαρμογή. | |
| dc.description.abstracttranslated | HYGROPHAGE presents a speculative yet entirely plausible ecosystem in which humans, insects, and technological infrastructures coexist under conditions of environmental pressure and limited natural resources. Rather than reproducing a narrative of environmental collapse or a post-human world where artificial intelligence replaces humans, the project explores a condition of interdependence, where survival emerges through fragile forms of cooperation between biological and technological systems. Within the exhibition space, a closed life cycle unfolds. The insects are born in incubators specially designed structures that function as sites of incubation and early development. Their survival is supported by wall-mounted air filtration systems, which do not eliminate pollution but manage it, creating localized conditions of habitability within a broader contaminated environment. These infrastructures operate as mechanisms for sustaining life, redistributing and spatially negotiating the effects of environmental crisis. At the center of the ecosystem stands a sculptural structure collectively produced by the insects during the final stage of their life cycle. Its surface captures atmospheric pollutants and converts them into nutrients, enabling the species to survive within a toxic environment. At the same time, it functions as a humidity-harvesting system, condensing atmospheric moisture and producing water a critical resource for both living organisms and the technological systems that depend on it. The selection of insects as central organisms emphasizes resilience and collective operation. Insects are capable of adapting to extreme conditions and functioning without centralized control, forming decentralized systems that resemble both natural ecosystems and contemporary technological networks. Human presence has not disappeared, nor does artificial intelligence dominate the system; instead, both remain dependent on this ecosystem and the resources it produces. The project proposes an alternative understanding of intelligence not as an exclusively human or purely mechanical attribute, but as an ecological process emerging through relationships of interaction and interdependence. Through this scenario, HYGROPHAGE raises the question of how our relationship with the natural world might be redefined if survival were based not on control, but on coexistence, cooperation, and continuous adaptation. | en |

| dc.description.cv | Ο Χρήστος Φουσέκης είναι εικαστικός καλλιτέχνης με έδρα την Αθήνα, δραστηριοποιούμενος κυρίως στη δημιουργία εγκαταστάσεων που συνδυάζουν τρισδιάστατη εκτύπωση, ψηφιακή μοντελοποίηση και πειραματισμό με υλικά, καθώς και τεχνικές ψηφιακής κατασκευής όπως CNC και laser cutting. Είναι απόφοιτος της Ανώτατης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών (ΑΣΚΤ, 2026). Το 2022 συμμετείχε στο πρόγραμμα ανταλλαγής Erasmus στην Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) στη Λειψία, εστιάζοντας στη σχέση μεταξύ χώρου, εγκατάστασης και υλικών, υπό την καθοδήγηση του Prof. Joachim Blank. Η πρακτική του διερευνά τη σχέση μεταξύ τεχνολογίας, περιβάλλοντος και ανθρώπου, με στόχο τη δημιουργία υβριδικών οικοσυστημάτων όπου βιολογικές και τεχνολογικές διαδικασίες συνυπάρχουν. Μέσα από υποθετικά και εξερευνητικά περιβάλλοντα και γλυπτικές δομές, αναδεικνύει έννοιες όπως η συλλογική νοημοσύνη, η αλληλεξάρτηση και η προσαρμογή σε περιβαλλοντικές και τεχνολογικές μεταβάσεις. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις και καλλιτεχνικά προγράμματα στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό, μεταξύ των οποίων η EuroFabrique στο Grand Palais Éphémère στο Παρίσι, καθώς και εκθέσεις στη Γερμανία και το Μονπελιέ. Επιπλέον, συμμετείχε ως μέλος της ομάδας παραγωγής στην 7η Athens Biennale, αποκτώντας εμπειρία στον συντονισμό και την υλοποίηση σύνθετων εκθεσιακών έργων. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, η εμπειρία του περιλαμβάνει την performance Kin Baby στο Ίδρυμα Ωνάση (Stegi Onassis, Εύα Γιαννακοπούλου, 2021), συμμετοχή ως performer στην Ελληνική Εθνική Λυρική Σκηνή, Stavros Niarchos Hall, στο έργο The Artist on the Composer (NEON, N. Ναυρίδης, 2018–2019), backstage και παραγωγή στο Transverse Orientation του Δημήτρη Παπαϊωάννου / 2Works στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής (2019–2020), καθώς και παραγωγή props για το Pytheas Travels των Hypercomf σε συνεργασία με το Ultima Festival και το Onassis Foundation (2023). Στο πλαίσιο της επαγγελματικής του δραστηριότητας, συνεργάστηκε με τον καλλιτέχνη Θεόκλητο Τριανταφυλλίδη, συμβάλλοντας στην παραγωγή γλυπτικών στοιχείων, χαρακτήρων και εγκαταστάσεων για εκθέσεις, performances και ερευνητικά έργα στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Το 2025, συμμετείχε στο πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας καλλιτεχνών EAXO Residency στα Χανιά, επεκτείνοντας την έρευνά του γύρω από τις σχέσεις τεχνολογίας, υλικότητας και οικολογικών συστημάτων. Η πρακτική του συνδυάζει ψηφιακά και φυσικά μέσα, με έμφαση στις τεχνολογίες τρισδιάστατης εκτύπωσης, τη γλυπτική και τις διαδικασίες κατασκευής, και μέσα από το έργο του ο Χρήστος Φουσέκης επιδιώκει να διερευνήσει νέες μορφές σχέσεων μεταξύ ανθρώπινων, τεχνολογικών και μη ανθρώπινων παραγόντων, προτείνοντας εναλλακτικούς τρόπους κατανόησης της σύγχρονης υλικότητας και του περιβάλλοντος. --- Christos Fousekis is a visual artist based in Athens, working primarily on installations that combine 3D printing, digital modeling, material experimentation, as well as digital fabrication techniques such as CNC and laser cutting. He is a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA, 2026). In 2022, he participated in the Erasmus Exchange Program at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) in Leipzig, focusing on the relationship between space, installation, and materials under the guidance of Prof. Joachim Blank. His practice explores the relationship between technology, the environment, and the human body, aiming to create hybrid ecosystems where biological and technological processes coexist. Through speculative and exploratory environments and sculptural structures, he investigates concepts such as collective intelligence, nterdependence, and adaptation to environmental and technological transitions. He has participated in group exhibitions and artistic programs in Greece and abroad, including EuroFabrique at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris, as well as exhibitions in Germany and Montpellier. Additionally, he was a member of the production team for the 7th Athens Biennale, gaining experience in coordinating and implementing complex exhibition projects. Building on this experience, his work in performance and production includes Kin Baby at Onassis Stegi (Eύα Giannakopoulou, 2021), performing at the Greek National Opera Stavros Niarchos Hall in The Artist on the Composer (NEON, N. Navridis, 2018–2019), backstage and production work for Transverse Orientation by Dimitris Papaioannou / 2Works at Megaron Athens (2019–2020), and props production for Hypercomf’s Pytheas Travels, in collaboration with Ultima Festival and the Onassis Foundation (2023). In his professional activity, he has collaborated with the artist Theoklitos Triantafyllidis, contributing to the creation of sculptural elements, characters, and installations for exhibitions, performances, and research projects in Greece and internationally. In 2025, he participated in the EAXO Residency in Stavros, Chania, expanding his research on the interactions between technology, materiality, and ecological systems. His practice combines digital and physical media, with a focus on 3D printing technologies, sculpture, and fabrication processes, and through his work, Christos Fousekis seeks to explore new forms of relationships between human, technological, and non-human actors, proposing alternative approaches to understanding contemporary materiality and the environment. | |
