| dc.description.abstract | Η εργασία αφορμάται από τη συνθήκη της ανασφάλειας που χαρακτηρίζει τη σύγχρονη αστική εμπειρία, εστιάζοντας στην Αθήνα ως μελέτη περίπτωσης. Αναδεικνύει το εργοτάξιο τόσο ως εμβληματική εικόνα του αδιάκοπου αστικού μετασχηματισμού όσο και ως σύγχρονο εργαλείο πειθάρχησης. Μεθοδολογικά, συγκροτείται ένα ανάπτυγμα που συνδυάζει θεωρητική και ερευνητική προσέγγιση, αναφορές από τον κόσμο της τέχνης και βιωματική εμπειρία. Μέσα από την παρατήρηση και την προσωπική εμπλοκή του υποκειμένου με τον δημόσιο χώρο, αναλύεται η σχέση ανάμεσα στις χωροταξικές μεταβολές της πόλης, την αναδιάταξη των κοινωνικών συσχετισμών και τη μεταβολή της δημόσιας ζωής. Κεντρικό άξονα της συλλογιστικής αποτελεί το εργοτάξιο, προσεγγιζόμενο ως μεταιχμιακός τόπος όπου κυριαρχούν η μεταβολή, η αστάθεια, ο αποκλεισμός και η ελεγχόμενη πρόσβαση. Έννοιες όπως οι περιφράξεις, η υφαρπαγή γης και η αργή βία αξιοποιούνται για να φωτίσουν τους μηχανισμούς μέσω των οποίων ο δημόσιος χώρος αποκόπτεται, εμπορευματοποιείται και επαναπροσδιορίζεται. Παράλληλα, η ανάλυση παραμένει στενά συνδεδεμένη με το προσωπικό βίωμα της πόλης, επιχειρώντας έναν διάλογο ανάμεσα στην υπαρξιακή αναζήτηση, τη θεωρία της αρχιτεκτονικής και το πολιτικό επίπεδο. Η Αθήνα εξετάζεται ως «εργοτάξιο διαρκείας», ένας τόπος διαρκούς μετασχηματισμού όπου η ανοικοδόμηση συνυπάρχει με τη φθορά και το ερείπιο. Η μελέτη αναδεικνύει πως οι παρεμβάσεις «αναβάθμισης» του αστικού τοπίου —όπως στα Εξάρχεια ή στο Ελληνικό— λειτουργούν συχνά ως μέσα αναδιάρθρωσης της πόλης υπέρ της συσσώρευσης κεφαλαίου, αλλοιώνοντας τον κοινωνικό και συμβολικό της ιστό. Το εργοτάξιο δεν αποτελεί απλώς τεχνικό μηχανισμό, αλλά ενεργό φορέα αναπαραγωγής της ανισότητας, κανονικοποιώντας το καθεστώς εξαίρεσης και καλλιεργώντας μια διάχυτη αίσθηση επισφάλειας. Η εργασία συνδιαλέγεται με καλλιτεχνικές πρακτικές όπως εκείνη του Jesse Darling, που διερευνούν την αστάθεια και την ευαλωτότητα, τη σχέση κατεδάφισης και ανοικοδόμησης, και τις συνδέσεις μεταξύ κοινωνικού και φυσικού χώρου, προσωπικού και πολιτικού. Στο παράρτημα περιλαμβάνεται το συνοδευτικό κείμενο της εγκατάστασης ON SHAKY GROUND, που αποτέλεσε και την αφορμή για τη συγγραφή της εργασίας. Συμπερασματικά, προτείνεται μια ανάγνωση της πόλης ως ζωντανού οργανισμού σε διαρκή μετάβαση, όπου κάθε ερείπιο εμπεριέχει το ενδεχόμενο ενός νέου ξεκινήματος. Παράλληλα τίθενται ερωτήματα προσβασιμότητας: ποια μορφή θα λάβει ο δημόσιος χώρος στο τέλος αυτής της διαδικασίας; Ποια σώματα θα έχουν εξασφαλίσει το δικαίωμα σε αυτόν και ποια θα κληθούν να το διεκδικήσουν εκ νέου; | |
| dc.description.abstracttranslated | This thesis examines the condition of insecurity that defines contemporary urban experience, using Athens as a case study. It explores how the construction site has become both an emblematic image of the city’s perpetual transformation and a contemporary mechanism of spatial and social control. Methodologically, the research is structured as a synthesis of theory, field observation, artistic references, and lived experience. Through the author’s personal engagement with public space, it investigates the interplay between urban restructuring, the reconfiguration of social relations, and the transformation of public life. The construction site serves as the central analytical framework, approached as a liminal zone where instability, exclusion, and restricted access prevail. Concepts such as enclosure, land appropriation, and slow violence are used to reveal how public space is fragmented, commodified, and redefined. At the same time, the analysis remains grounded in personal experience, maintaining a dialogue between existential inquiry, architectural theory, and political critique. Athens is interpreted as a “permanent construction site,” a space of ongoing transformation where renewal coexists with decay and ruin. The study argues that urban “maintenance” or “upgrading” projects—such as those in Exarchia or the Elliniko redevelopment—often function as instruments for the reorganization of the city in favor of capital accumulation, disrupting its social and symbolic fabric. The construction site, therefore, is not a neutral or purely technical mechanism but an active agent in reproducing inequality, normalizing the state of exception, and fostering a pervasive sense of precarity. The thesis also engages with artistic practices such as those of Jesse Darling, whose work examines instability, vulnerability, and the fragile coexistence of construction and collapse, connecting the social with the material, and the personal with the political. The appendix includes the accompanying text of the installation ON SHAKY GROUND, which served as the conceptual point of departure for this research. Ultimately, the work proposes a reading of the city as a living organism in constant transition, where every ruin holds the potential for new beginnings. It concludes by raising questions about accessibility and spatial justice: what form will public space take after this process of transformation, and which bodies will have secured, or will need to reclaim, their right to it? | en |
