Abstract
Η παρούσα εργασία διερευνά τη μετάβαση της γλυπτικής από τον υλικό στον ψηφιακό χώρο μέσα από την έννοια του υβριδίου και τη συμβολική γλώσσα των ζωδίων. Στο επίκεντρο βρίσκεται μια σειρά ανθρωπόμορφων γλυπτών που αντλούν τη μορφολογική και εννοιολογική τους βάση από τον ζωδιακό κύκλο, όπως αυτός διαμορφώθηκε ιστορικά μέσα από την αστρονομία, τη μυθολογία και τις κοσμολογικές αφηγήσεις της Μεσοποταμίας, της Αιγύπτου και της αρχαίας Ελλάδας. Τα ζώδια προσεγγίζονται όχι ως μέσα αστρολογικής πρόβλεψης, αλλά ως αρχέτυπα που ενσωματώνουν ψυχολογικές, φυσικές και υπαρξιακές ποιότητες. Η καλλιτεχνική πρακτική βασίζεται στη δημιουργία γλυπτών από πηλό, τα οποία στη συνέχεια ψηφιοποιούνται μέσω τρισδιάστατης σάρωσης και επανεντάσσονται σε ένα εικονικό περιβάλλον . Η διαδικασία αυτή δεν αναιρεί τη γλυπτική υλικότητα, αλλά τη μετασχηματίζει, μεταφέροντας στον ψηφιακό χώρο τη μνήμη της χειρονομίας και του σώματος. Το έργο κατοικεί έτσι σε ένα ενδιάμεσο πεδίο, όπου το αναλογικό και το ψηφιακό, το αρχαίο και το σύγχρονο, συνυπάρχουν. Μέσα από την ανθρωπόμορφη απόδοση των ζωδίων, η εργασία εξετάζει τη σχέση του ανθρώπου με το σύμπαν και τη διαχρονική ανάγκη του να εντάξει την ύπαρξή του σε μια ευρύτερη κοσμική αφήγηση. Τα γλυπτά λειτουργούν ως φορείς συλλογικής μνήμης και συμβολισμού, προτείνοντας μια σύγχρονη ανανοηματοδότηση της γλυπτικής ως ανοιχτού, υβριδικού πεδίου που εκτείνεται πέρα από τα όρια της φυσικής ύλης.
Abstract in english
This project explores the transition of sculpture from the physical to the digital realm through the concept of hybridity and the symbolic language of the zodiac. At its core is a series of anthropomorphic sculptures whose formal and conceptual foundations derive from the zodiac cycle, as historically shaped by astronomy, mythology, and cosmological systems in Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and ancient Greek cultures. The zodiac signs are approached not as tools of astrological prediction, but as archetypal forms that embody psychological, natural, and existential qualities. The artistic practice is based on the creation of clay sculptures, which are subsequently digitized through 3D scanning and re-situated within a virtual environment resembling a cosmic landscape. This process does not negate the materiality of sculpture; rather, it transforms it, carrying the memory of gesture and corporeality into the digital space. The work thus exists within an intermediate field where the analog and the digital, the ancient and the contemporary, intersect and inform one another. Through the anthropomorphic rendering of the zodiac signs, the project investigates humanity’s enduring relationship with the cosmos and the persistent need to situate individual existence within a larger universal narrative. The sculptures function as vessels of collective memory and symbolism, proposing a contemporary reconfiguration of sculpture as an open, hybrid practice that extends beyond the limits of physical matter.
