Abstract
Η παρούσα εργασία διερευνά την συνεργασία του Benvenuto Cellini με τον Cosimo I de’ Medici, εστιάζοντας στην ένταση ανάμεσα στην ατομική δημιουργικότητα και την πολιτικά ελεγχόμενη τέχνη στην Ιταλική Αναγέννηση. Επίσης, αναλύεται η πολιτιστική στρατηγική του Μεδίκειου καθεστώτος, το οποίο αξιοποίησε την τέχνη ως εργαλείο πολιτικής νομιμοποίησης, κοινωνικής ηγεμονίας και ιδεολογικής προβολής. Παράλληλα, εξετάζεται η καλλιτεχνική διαδρομή και η ασυμβίβαστη προσωπικότητα του Cellini, που συχνά οδηγούσε σε συγκρούσεις με πάτρωνες και εξουσιαστικούς μηχανισμούς. Η συνεργασία με τον Cosimo I de’ Medici, επισκιασμένη από προσωπικές ασυμβατότητες, καλλιτεχνικούς ανταγωνισμούς και δικαστικές διενέξεις, είχε ως τελικό αποτέλεσμα την καλλιτεχνική απομόνωση του Benvenuto Cellini. Η μελέτη αυτή βασίζεται σε πρωτογενείς πηγές, όπως η αυτοβιογραφία Vita, τα ποιήματα και τα θεωρητικά κείμενα του Cellini, στις μαρτυρίες των Vasari και Machiavelli και σε εκτενή δευτερογενή βιβλιογραφία. Μέσα από την περίπτωση Cellini-Cosimo, αναδεικνύονται οι δομικές αντιφάσεις της σχέσης τέχνης και εξουσίας στην Αναγέννηση.
Abstract in english
This thesis explores the collaboration between Benvenuto Cellini and Cosimo I de’ Medici, focusing on the tension between individual creativity and politically controlled art in the Italian Renaissance. It further analyzes the cultural strategy of the Medicean regime, which employed art as a tool of political legitimation, social hegemony, and ideological projection. At the same time, it examines the artistic trajectory and uncompromising personality of Cellini, which frequently led to conflicts with patrons and mechanisms of power. The collaboration with Cosimo I de’ Medici, overshadowed by personal incompatibilities, artistic rivalries, and repeated financial and judicial disputes, ultimately resulted in Cellini’s progressive artistic marginalization. The study is based on primary sources, such as Cellini’s autobiography Vita, his poems and theoretical writings, as well as the testimonies of Vasari and Machiavelli, and on extensive secondary literature. Through the case of Cellini and Cosimo, the structural contradictions of the relationship between art and power in the Renaissance are brought to light.
