| dc.description.abstract | Η πρόσφατη έρευνα έχει φέρει στο προσκήνιο τον λόγο γύρω από τις μη ανθρώπινες οντότητες, ενώ παράλληλα, ο λόγος για την εικόνα και οι σπουδές οπτικού πολιτισμού συνεχίζουν να παράγουν αδιάκοπα χιλιάδες σελίδες γραφής, όπως ήδη συνέβαινε κατά τον προηγούμενο αιώνα. Η παρούσα διατριβή επιδιώκει να συνδέσει δύο φαινομενικά διακριτές συζητήσεις: τα επιχειρήματα γύρω από τις μη ανθρώπινες οντότητες και εκείνα γύρω από την επιστήμη της εικόνας και τις σπουδές οπτικού πολιτισμού. Υπάρχει μια ιδιότυπη «ρωγμή» που η διατριβή επιχειρεί να φέρει πιο κοντά στο μικροσκόπιο προς επιδιόρθωση: συνήθως παρατηρείται ένα σημαντικό χάσμα ανάμεσα σε αυτές τις δύο συζητήσεις, δηλαδή ανάμεσα στα επιχειρήματα της οικοκριτικής και στα επιχειρήματα της ιστορίας της τέχνης, της θεωρίας της τέχνης και των σπουδών οπτικού πολιτισμού, αντίστοιχα. Το χάσμα που χρειάζεται φροντίδα φαίνεται να έγκειται στο ότι η πρώτη συζήτηση προϋποθέτει πως μιλούμε υπέρ του φυσικού στη διαμάχη Φύσης/Πολιτισμού, ενώ η δεύτερη γίνεται αντιληπτή αποκλειστικά ως κατασκευή εντός του πολιτισμικού. Ένα πρώτο «μπάλωμα», λοιπόν, είναι η αποδόμηση αυτής της διάκρισης: να κάνουμε ένα βήμα πίσω στα όσα αφορούν την εικόνα, ώστε να λησμονήσουμε ακόμη και την παραδοχή ότι το Πολιτισμικό αποτελεί το βασικό μας πεδίο έρευνας ή το έδαφος πάνω στο οποίο αναδύονται νέες θεωρίες. Παράλληλα, ένα δεύτερο «μπάλωμα» θα ήταν να σκεφτούμε ότι αυτό που επιτελείται ως πολιτισμική πρακτική είναι ταυτόχρονα και μια πρακτική του φυσικού. Το βασικό ερευνητικό ερώτημα της διατριβής είναι να προτείνει μια αναθεώρηση της -ευρέως συζητημένης- ανανέωσης των επιστημών της εικόνας, επιστρέφοντας ένα βήμα πίσω, εκεί όπου όλα ξεκίνησαν: στην εικονολογία. Αυτό λειτουργεί ως ένα ακόμη «μπάλωμα», μια προσπάθεια να βυθιστούμε στην ίδια τη λέξη «εικονολογία», η οποία δεν μπορεί να μας απελευθερώσει από το πολιτισμικό σε αντιδιαστολή με το φυσικό. Η έρευνα ξεκινά και ολοκληρώνεται με την εξέταση της εικονολογίας ως όρου που αδυνατεί να μας απεγκλωβίσει από κυρίαρχα ιεραρχικά σχήματα και εξακολουθεί να καθορίζει τις προσεγγίσεις μας μέσω του εγγενούς λογοκεντρισμού της. Η επικαιροποίηση της εικονολογίας μάς οδήγησε να ακολουθήσουμε αυτό που σήμερα περιγράφεται ως η Μη-Ανθρώπινη Στροφή, αλλά κυρίως τα Νέο Υλιστικά ρεύματα. Αν έπρεπε να αναφερθεί ένα και μόνο στοιχείο που λειτούργησε ως καθοδηγητικός άξονας για τη διατριβή αυτή, αυτό -παραδόξως- δεν θα ήταν οι εικόνες, αλλά η διεμπλοκή (entanglement). Αυτή μοιάζει είναι η συνθήκη που αναδεικνύεται ως η καταλληλότερη για να περιγράψει τελικά τη σχέση μας με την εικόνα. | |
| dc.description.abstracttranslated | Recent scholarship has placed the discourse around non-human entities in the foreground; inasmuch, image discourse and visual culture studies have been continuously producing thousands of written pages as they had already done in the past century. The present thesis aims to participate in these very discourses by joining these two discussions: arguments around non-human entities and arguments around image and visual studies. There is a certain ache that this thesis aims to further bring to the microscope, a tore to be patched: there is usually a great gap between these two distinct discussions, meaning that, arguments of ecocriticism and arguments of history of art, theory of art and visual culture studies, respectively. The very gap needed to be patched and cared for seems to be that the former discussion always presupposes that we speak in favor of the Natural in the battle of Nature/Culture whereas the latter cannot be even grasped as anything else that being constructed within the Cultural. It is then a first patch that we aim to use as a point of origin, to dismantle this distinction, to take the image discourse a step backwards so as to forget the fact that we even place the cultural as our field of inquiry or as the ground for new theories to emerge. In addition, and on the other hand the second patch would be to think of combining what is practiced in the cultural as also a practice of the natural. The main research inquiry of the research is to provide a proposal for the vastly discussed update of image sciences, and that would be to take a step backwards and see where it all started: iconology. This stands as a patch in order to dive into the very word of iconology which can never set us free of the cultural as opposed to the natural. The research starts and ends with the scope of discussing iconology as a word that cannot liberate us from predominant hierarchical patterns and despite the great will and the great writings of many great writers, it still does dominate our approaches in its inherent logocentrism. Updating Iconology urged us to follow what is currently described as the Non-Human Turn, but most importantly New Materialism(s). If we want to mention only one thing that has been the star-guide for this thesis, that is surprisingly not images, but: entanglement. This is the very condition that we find the as the ‘fittest candidate’ to describe what our image relationship is afterall. | en |
