| dc.description.abstract | Τα εικονοστάσια ή προσκυνητάρια αποτελούν μια διαχρονική εθιμική πρακτική, άρρηκτα συν-δεδεμένη με την ανθρώπινη προσπάθεια διαχείρισης της απώλειας και του μυστηρίου του θανάτου. Η παρούσα εργασία εξετάζει τα εικονοστάσια όχι μόνο ως υλικά αντικείμενα, αλλά και ως φορείς μνήμης, πολιτισμικής κληρονομιάς και συμβολικής αλληλεπίδρασης με τον χώρο και τον χρόνο. Παράλληλα, διερευνά το σύνθετο πλέγμα εννοιών και ερμηνειών που τα καθιστούν πεδίο προσέγγισης βαθύτερων ψυχολογικών και συμβολικών διεργασιών. Η έρευνα, η οποία ξεκίνησε το 2020, βασίστηκε σε εκτενή φωτογραφική τεκμηρίωση και σε επιτόπιες παρεμβάσεις σε εικονοστάσια σε διάφορες περιοχές της Ελλάδας. Τα εικονοστάσια, με τα ποικίλα γεωγραφικά και αρχιτεκτονικά χαρακτηριστικά τους, ενσωματώνονται στο τοπίο, αναδεικνύοντας την πολυπλοκότητα και την ποικιλομορφία του ελληνικού χώρου, καθώς και τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η μνήμη εγγράφεται και αναπαράγεται υλικά και χωρικά. Το πρώτο μέρος του φωτογραφικού έργου εστιάζει στην ενσωμάτωση των εικονοστασίων στο τοπίο και στη σχέση τους με το περιβάλλον. Μέσα από τη διαπραγμάτευση της φωτογραφικής απόστασης και εγγύτητας, καθώς και του φωτογραφικού ρεαλισμού, αναδύονται το δέος απέναντι στον θάνατο, η ανθρώπινη ευαλωτότητα και η συντριβή, σε αντίστιξη με τον χώρο και τις συχνά απρόσμενες φυσικές, χωρικές και πολιτισμικές συνευρέσεις. Τα εικονοστάσια λειτουργούν ως τόποι συμβολικής φόρτισης, συχνά παραπέμποντας σε στοιχεία της ναοδομίας και της εκκλησιαστικής αρχιτεκτονικής. Η κλίμακα συνδέεται με τη σημασιοδότηση του χώρου ως τοπόσημου μνήμης και προσωπικού δράματος, ενώ η μνήμη και η λήθη εμφανίζονται ως ενεργές δυνάμεις που συγκροτούν τον τόπο. Στο δεύτερο μέρος του έργου, η εστίαση μετατοπίζεται στα εσωτερικά των εικονοστασίων. Οι εικόνες επιχειρούν να ενεργοποιήσουν μια αισθητηριακή και ποιητική συνθήκη, η οποία τροφοδοτεί ένα πεδίο μεταξύ μνήμης και φαντασίας. Μέσω προσωπικών παρεμβάσεων και επιλογών σύνθεσης, η φωτογραφική πράξη υπερβαίνει την απλή καταγραφή του υπαρκτού και στρέφεται στην απόδοση της ατμόσφαιρας, της βιωμένης εμπειρίας και της εσωτερικότητας του τόπου. | |
| dc.description.abstracttranslated | Iconostases, or roadside shrines, constitute a timeless ritual practice intimately connected to humanity’s engagement with loss and the mystery of death. This study examines iconostases not only as material objects but also as carriers of memory, cultural heritage, and symbolic interaction with space and time. It further investigates the complex network of concepts and interpretations that render them a field for exploring deeper psychological and symbolic processes. The artistic research, initiated in 2020, is based on photographic documentation as well as site-specific interventions in iconostases across various regions of Greece. These structures, with their diverse geographical and architectural characteristics, are embedded within the landscape, highlighting both the complexity and heterogeneity of Greek space and the ways in which memory is materially and spatially inscribed and reproduced. The first part of the photographic project focuses on the integration of iconostases within the landscape and their relationship with the surrounding environment. Through the interplay of photographic realism and the negotiation of distance and proximity, awe in the face of death, human vulnerability, and despair emerge in relation to space, alongside often unexpected natural, spatial, and cultural juxtapositions. Functioning as sites of symbolic intensity, iconostases frequently evoke elements of ecclesiastical architecture. Scale becomes associated with the spatial inscription of memory and personal drama, while memory and oblivion emerge as active forces shaping the meaning of place. The second part of the photographic project examines the interior spaces of these structures, seeking to activate a sensory and poetic condition that generates a field between memory and imagination. Through personal interventions and conscious compositional choices, the photographic act moves beyond mere documentation of the existing environment, turning instead toward the evocation of atmosphere, lived experience, and the interiority of place. | en |
