Abstract
Η παρούσα εργασία εξετάζει τη θεωρητική, τεχνοκριτική και επιμελητική δραστηριότητα του Νικόλαου Κάλας, εστιάζοντας στη συμβολή του στη διαμόρφωση της ελληνικής και διεθνούς διανόησης του 20ού αιώνα. Μέσα από την καταγραφή της βιογραφικής και πνευματικής του διαδρομής, αναλύονται τρεις κομβικές φάσεις της ζωής του: η Αθήνα, το Παρίσι και η Νέα Υόρκη. Οι πόλεις αυτές δεν λειτουργούν μόνο ως γεωγραφικοί και χρονικοί σταθμοί αλλά και ως ιδεολογικά πλαίσια που καθόρισαν την πορεία και σκέψη του: μαρξισμός (Αθήνα), φροϋδομαρξισμός (Αθήνα και Παρίσι) και υπερρεαλισμός (Παρίσι και Νέα Υόρκη). Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνεται στα θεωρητικά του έργα και στις παρεμβάσεις του στον χώρο της τεχνοκριτικής, καθώς και στη σημασία της επιμελητικής του δράσης ως πεδίο εφαρμογής των ιδεών του. Τέλος, η εργασία αποτιμά το έργο του Κάλας υπό το πρίσμα της σύγχρονης σκέψης, αναδεικνύοντας τη διαχρονικότητα της προσέγγισής του στην τέχνη ως μέσο αισθητικής, κοινωνικής και πολιτικής παρέμβασης.
Abstract in english
This thesis examines the theoretical, art-critical, and curatorial work of Nicolas Calas, focusing on his contribution to the formation of both Greek and international intellectual discourse in the 20th century. Through the reconstruction of his biographical and intellectual trajectory, three pivotal phases of his life are analyzed: Athens, Paris, and New York. These cities function not only as geographical and chronological milestones but also as ideological frameworks that shaped his trajectory and thoughts: Marxism (Athens), Freudo-marxism (Athens and Paris) and Surrealism (Paris and New York) . Emphasis is placed on his theoretical writings and his interventions in the field of art criticism, as well as on the significance of his curatorial practice as a field of application for his ideas. Finally, the study assesses Calas' work through the lens of contemporary thought, highlighting the timelessness of his approach to art as a means of aesthetic, social, and political intervention.
